1. Can I bring in clothing, personal grooming or hygiene articles for my child while he/she is in the Detention Center?

No, all clothing, grooming and hygiene materials are provided by the Detention Center.

2. Can I bring in food or money for my child?

No, all meals are provided by the Kitchen staff and detained youth do not need money.

3. My child is taking prescription medication, can I bring it in for him/her?

Yes, however, only medication prescribed by a physician can be brought into the Detention Center. Further, the medication must be in the original container. All medications are verified by the treating physician prior to distribution by the Detention Center’s Medical Department.

4. What if my child has a prearranged appointment for medical, dental or mental health care?

Youth with prearranged appointments will be transported by Detention staff and/or the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department to the appointment.

5. Can youth turn themselves in if a warrant has been issued?

Yes, youth can turn themselves in to Deputies or Probation Officers of the Juvenile Court. The Juvenile Court is staffed with Deputies 24 hours a day.

6. How do I obtain my personal items (keys, etc.) if my child has been arrested?

Upon request, any and all property can be returned to the parent(s) of a child as long as the student’s property is not essential to an investigation.

7. Is my child allowed to attend a funeral or hospital regarding a family member?

Yes, a youth can be transported for a funeral or hospital visit regarding an immediate (mother, father, sibling, grandfather, grandmother) family member. However, youth must attend prior to the arrival of other attendees.
