What are the income guidelines?: We follow federal guidelines for 80% of the median and it is categorized by the number of individual living in the household. We can tentatively tell you based upon your current income if you fall into the eligibility guidelines. However, all income is verified third party and we will need your authorization to contact all sources of your income for written verification.

1. Can you send me out an application?: Applications are not mailed out; we start our process initially by doing a phone evaluation. We first determine eligibility based upon your income, the location of the property, the age of children involved.
If it determined that you could be eligible, we then do a preliminary assessment of the property to determine if it is structurally sound and within our cost limitations. This is done by sending our inspector out to take exterior only pictures of the property.

2. What is the age guideline for children?: We are addressing families with children no older than 5 years of age.

3. Does the child have to be living in the home?: No, the child has to frequent the home and spend at least 6 hours a week there. (for example: grandchildren visiting weekly or spending the night or baby sitting a child on a regular basis).

5. How can i find out if my child has lead poisoning?: You can have the child tested by having their blood drawn. St. Elizabeth has a lead clinic and if you qualify, you can have the child tested at no cost. You can also request testing through your pediatrician’s office.

6. How can i find out if i have lead in my home?: If your home was built prior to 1978, more than likely there is lead paint present, but it only becomes a hazard when it is deteriorated. If you have cracking, chalking, peeling paint etc., that is an indication that lead paint could be present. To determine for sure if you have lead paint hazards, a lead inspection/risk assessment will need to be done on the property.

7. How much does an inspection cost?: It varies depending upon who you hire, and the size of your home. However, if you are eligible for our program, it is a part of our process and is no cost to you.

8. I bought this property for rental purposes on-line site unseen and did not realize there was a citation on it until I saw the sign posted on the door. Can you help me make this property lead-safe?: Yes…In order to qualify for our program, you may have to pay a portion of the cost to make it lead-safe. Based upon a $10,000 job, we would pay 100% of the first $10.000. If the cost estimate exceeds $10,000 you would be responsible for anything over and above the $10,000. The home has to be located in our target area, and your prospective tenant would also have to qualify you by falling within the income guidelines and having a child no older than 5.

9. I have a property that has been cited for lead. Can I do the work myself?: Once a home has been cited for lead, the work must be done by a state lead licensed contractor. There is a list on the Ohio department of health’s website under the lead section.

10. How can I get the citation removed from my home?: Once the work has been completed by a lead licensed contractor, you will need to have a clearance inspection done. Usually by the same entity that did the initial inspection that caused the citation. If they are not available, any state licensed lead inspector/risk assessor can do a clearance test as long as they have a copy of the original inspection.
